The George W. Bush Childhood Home

A monumental step toward completing the restoration of George W. Bush’s childhood home was announced by State Sen. Teel Bivins on Wednesday. The Texas Historical Commission awarded Midland a Texas Preservation Trust Fund Grant in the amount of $4,000.

“This is so exciting for Midland,” said Bivins, R-Amarillo. “This is a locally driven project. We didn’t have a lot of money to give out. We are elated to have this national landmark.” The house, located at 1412 W. Ohio Ave., will be restored to how it looked from1951 to 1955. It also will be a designated presidential site, said Bill Scott, board president of George Bush Childhood Home, Inc. “We want people to see where the president got the values he learned in his young years and in this community,” Scott said.

State Rep. Tom Craddick, R-Midland was present at the announcement and joked that between Lee High School alumnus/Longhorn football star Cedric Benson and the childhood home, Midland is has been receiving a lot more attention.

Depending on whether funding becomes available, the childhood home will become part of a Presidential Trial that is similar to the Texas Forts Trail, Scott said.
